SISTER QUOTES

Since I was never blessed with a sister, I've relied on others to bring me sister quotes.  And they have.

For instance, a young lady named Sami told me about this custom of Native Americans:

Throughout the U.S. and Canada, American Indians use a term they call the Three Sisters to describe the Native American gardening technique of planting corn, beans and squash together on the same mound.

These Three Sisters - corn, beans and squash - supplement and compliment each other. The vines of the bean plant grow up the corn stalk. The huge leaves of the squash vines keep the ground moist for all of the roots.

The nutritious vitamins from each of the plants escapes into the soil so that they each benefit from one another.

What a beautiful analogy for sister quotes.  Each is very different, and yet each complements the others.

There are a number of very famous sisters in history, sports and literature that, one would think, might have prompted some great sister quotes, such as:

  • the Andrews Sisters

  • the Lennon Sisters

  • the 3 Bronte sisters

  • the Pointer sisters

  • Dear Abby and Ann Landers

  • Maria and Marjorie Tallchief, the prima ballerinas

  • the 3 Gabor sisters

  • Venus and Serena Williams, the spectacular tennis players

They probably all had some great sister quotes, and I would welcome them, should you run across them.

Actually, I did see a couple of sister quotes from famous sisters:

I always like to win. But I'm the big sister. I want to make sure she has everything, even if I don't have anything. It's hard. I love her too much. That's what counts.
Venus Williams, sister of, and competitor to, Serena Williams.  They have even come up against each other in the final, championship round.

... or this beautiful sister quote about angels:

When I was a child I thought I saw an angel. It had wings and kinda looked like my sister. I opened the door so some light could come into the room, and it sort of faded away. My mother said it was probably my Guardian Angel.
Denzel Washington

Other sister quotes wax rhapsodic about the wonders of sisters:

For there is no friend like a sister in calm or stormy weather;
To cheer one on the tedious way,
to fetch one if one goes astray,
to lift one if one totters down,
to strengthen whilst one stands.

Christina Rossetti

Having a sister is like having a best friend you can't get rid of.  You know whatever you do, they'll still be there.
Amy Li

If you don't understand how a woman could both love her sister dearly and want to wring her neck at the same time, then you were probably an only child.
Linda Sunshine

Helping one another is part of the religion of sisterhood.
Louisa May Alcott

I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness.
Emily Dickinson

Help one another, is part of the religion of sisterhood.
Louisa May Alcott, author of "Little Women"

A sister can be seen as someone who is both ourselves and very much not ourselves - a special kind of double.
Toni Morrison, author

There is a touching scene in the movie, "A League of  Their Own", where the two sisters are saying goodby.  The younger sister says:

"Do you ever hear Dad introduce us to people?  This is our daughter Dottie, and this is our other daughter, Dottie's sister."

And leave it to Charlie Brown for great sister quotes:

Big sisters are the crab grass in the lawn of life.
Charlie Brown, by Charles M. Schulz

My mother went into the Peace Corps when she was sixty-eight. My one sister is a motorcycle freak, my other sister is a Holy Roller evangelist and my brother is running for president. I'm the only sane one in the family.
Billy Carter

I was a bratty little sister. I was the youngest of three,
and I often felt as though I didn't fit in.

Dorothy Hamill

Sisters is probably the most competitive relationship within the family, but once the sisters are grown, it becomes the strongest relationship.
Margaret Mead

Sweet is the voice of a sister in the season of sorrow.
Benjamin Disraeli

A sister is a gift to the heart,
a friend to the spirit,
a golden thread to the meaning of life.
Isadora James

To the outside world we all grow old.
But not to brothers and sisters.
We know each other as we always were.
We know each other's hearts.
We share private family jokes.
We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys.  We live outside the touch of time.
Clara Ortega

How do people make it through life without a sister?
Sara Corpening

The best thing about having a sister
was that I always had a friend.
Cali Rae Turner

Lord help the Mister
Who comes between me and my sister,
And Lord help the Sister
Who comes between me and my man.
