INSPIRATIONAL BASEBALL QUOTEThe boys of summer are at it again with an inspirational baseball quote. Who better to comment on the game than the players, and maybe a few managers and commentators? I'm not sure how baseball came to be the United States national pasttime. It seems an odd choice. No violence. Limited number of players. Umpires that you can't hit, even if you can shout at them. Sounds pretty un-American. But there is a real fascination with it. As our national genius Albert Einstein has said:
I don't see many back alley games anymore. It's sad that baseball has become so institutionalized. I'm not sure that many players spouted an inspirational baseball quote in the backroads of the 1920's, but it was a great game back then nonetheless. I couldn't resist a couple of inspirational baseball quote selections from one of my favorite movies, "A League of Their Own". Yes, "A Field of Dreams" is here too. So let's go see what kind of inspirational baseball quote some of these players came up with. *** First, an inspirational baseball quote selection from the insiders of the game -- the players, the coaches, the managers, the umps. If we're going to win the pennant,
we've got to start thinking we're not as good as we think we are. Son, what kind of pitch would you like
to miss? You owe it to yourself to be the best
you can possible be - in baseball and in life. Baseball,
it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in
Arizona. Not all holes, or games, are created equal. I never questioned the integrity of an
umpire. Their eyesight, yes. I
think there are only three things America will be known for 2,000 years
from now when they study this civilization: the Constitution, jazz
music, and baseball. The good Lord was good to me. He gave
me a strong body, a good right arm, and a weak mind. If I had my career to play over, one
thing I'd do differently is swing more. Those 1,200 walks I got, nobody
remembers them. I know
it's tough. Everybody in baseball knows its tough. I'm just going to
give it my best shot. Close
don't count in baseball. Close only counts in horseshoes and grenades. Pitchers
did me a favor when they knocked me down. It made me more determined. I
wouldn't let that pitcher get me out. They say you can't hit if you're
on your back, but I didn't hit on my back. I got up. Back to top of Famous Inspirational Baseball Quote page Don't
ever forget two things I'm going to tell you. One, don't believe
everything that's written about you. Two, don't pick up too many checks. If it
wasn't for baseball, I'd be in either the penitentiary or the
cemetery. There is
no room in baseball for discrimination. It is our national pastime and a
game for all. The
pitcher has got only a ball. I've got a bat. So the percentage of
weapons is in my favor and I let the fellow with the ball do the
fretting. Every
great batter works on the theory that the pitcher is more afraid of him
than he is of the pitcher. Cub fans,
by consensus, are the best in baseball. Year after year, in good times
and (mostly) bad, they turn out in vociferous numbers, sustaining
themselves with a heavenly choir that combines loyalty, criticism,
cheerfulness, durability, rage, beer and hope, in exquisite proportions. Every
day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday's success or put
its failures behind and start over again. That's the way life is, with a
new game every day, and that's the way baseball is. I never
want to quit playing ball. They’ll have to cut this uniform off of me
to get me out of it Boys,
I'm one of those umpires that misses 'em every once in a while so if
it's close, you'd better hit it. Back to top of Famous Inspirational Baseball Quotes page God,
I hope I wear this jersey forever." Fans
don't boo nobodies. What
is the top requirement for a second baseman? A fine shortstop. The (New
York) Yankees can be had. Don't
call us (ballplayers) heroes. Fireman are heroes If
I ever find a pitcher who has heat, a good curve, and a slider, I might
seriously consider marrying him, or at least proposing. Who's on First? An inspirational baseball quote? Well, maybe one inspired by baseball, with a touch of lunacy:
For a couple of brief seasons, women actually captured the baseball limelight. The movie, "A League of Their Own" with Geena Davis brought us a couple of great inspirational baseball quote notes:
... and in another section, the most famous quote in the movie:

This inspirational baseball quote selection is just too good to pass up:
And Mickey Mantle. He may, or may not, have been the greatest player of all time, but he was such a great guy that I had to include this set of his inspirational baseball quote notes:
Let's close as Announcer Harry Caray began his games, with this delightful inspirational baseball quote:
