BROTHER
QUOTES
My favorite of all brother quotes is this one from The
Adventures of Tom Sawyer. In this scene, our hero Tom gets into a name-calling contest
with another boy. The classic dialog runs like this:
"You're a coward and a pup. I'll tell my big brother on
you, and he can thrash you with his little finger, and I'll make him
do it, too."
"What do I care for your big brother? I've got a brother that's
bigger than he is -- and what's more, he can throw him over that
fence, too."
Both brothers were
imaginary.
I can hear myself saying
it. I was about 10, my brother was 11. It didn't hurt that my
brother had a physique that made him a star regional football player.
As for other brother quotes,
some are quite sentimental, some are courageous, and some are just plain
funny. Here are some of my favorite brother quotes.

Help your brother's boat
across, and your own will reach the shore.

Sometimes being a
brother is even better than being a superhero

It snowed last year too:
I made a snowman and my brother knocked it down and I knocked my
brother down and then we had tea.

Of all
brother quotes, this may be the most famous:

Brother
Author: Bobby Scott and Bob Russell (The Hollies)
A brother is a friend
given by Nature.

The best way to get a
puppy is to beg for a baby brother - and they'll settle for a puppy
every time.
Winston Pendelton
There is a little boy
inside the man who is my brother

boy.
And how I love him too.

Brotherhoods
are notorious for brother quotes like this one:
All for one and one for
all.
The Three Musketeers' slogan, the classic brotherhood
Never make a companion
equal to a brother.
Hesiod
The younger brother must
help to pay for the pleasures of the elder.
Jane Austen, Mansfield Park
When brothers agree, no
fortress is so strong as their common life.
Antisthenes
Blessed is the servant
who loves his brother as much when he is sick and useless as when he
is well and can be of service to him. And blessed is he who
loves his brother as well when he is afar off as when he is by his
side, and who would say nothing behind his back he might not, in love,
say before his face.
St Francis of Assisi
Being pretty on the
inside means you don't hit your brother and you eat all your peas -
that's what my grandma taught me.
Elizabeth Heller
My father used to play
with my brother and me in the yard. Mother would come out and
say, "You're tearing up the grass." "We're not
raising grass," Dad would reply. "We're raising
boys."

The highlight of my
childhood was making my brother laugh so hard that food came out his
nose.
Garrison Keillor
As we grew up, my
brothers acted like they didn't care, but I always knew they looked
out for me and were there!

One can be a brother
only in something. Where there is no tie that binds men, men are
not united but merely lined up.
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Flight to Arras
Visit your Aunt, but not
every Day; and call at your Brother's, but not every night.
Benjamin Franklin
I met a hundred men
going to Delhi and everyone is my brother.
Indian saying
A selection
of brother quotes would not be complete without this one from the
battlefield:
We few, we happy few, we
band of brothers. For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be
my brother; be never so vile. This day shall gentle his condition. And
gentlemen in England now abed shall think themselves accursed they
were not here, and hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks that
fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
Shakespeare, King Richard III
