During the time of slave ownership in the U.S., there was a special holiday celebrated between Christmas and New Years. This was the "slaves holiday" when they gave each other small gifts, sang and danced at night. In modern times it has become "Kwanzaa", and each of the seven days represents a different quality. Today is the first day of Kwanzaa, and the quality is "unity". Today's quote is from the poet and novelist Maya Angelou:
We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.
